Honoring 9/11 First Responder Paul Johnson

This is a story about a hero who Right at Home in Rock Hill, South Carolina had the honor to serve.

Paul Johnson was a first responder with the New York City Police Department (NYPD) Emergency Service Unit (ESU) between 1997 and 2003. He was also among the 75,000 first responders and rescue workers who searched for survivors at Ground Zero; he worked there for about 10 months until an injury at Ground Zero caused his early retirement from the force.

Johnson relocated to Fort Mill, South Carolina, post-retirement. In 2010, he was diagnosed with a 9/11-related lung disease. He enlisted home care help from Right at Home Rock Hill in April 2018. Jim Ryan, owner of the Rock Hill location, and caregiver Kelly Grant had the honor to meet this American hero, who had served his community selflessly and was fiercely devoted to his family. With permission of the Johnson family, we are sharing Paul Johnson’s story to keep his memory alive.
